Post-Celebrity Age

The unflashiness of the thing, to my mind, ups the volume of its credibility feeling and it gets me wondering if we're entering a time when more and more people are less and less wowed by celebrity, a time when famous people are expected to come to us more notably unplugged and on the level. It's as if he's apologizing for the idea that his two-cents might have an impact. Anyway, Joe Versus the Volcano ROCKED.

I like what you're saying about the changing nature of celebrity. There's a lot to chew on with that.

We're really excited to have you coming out to Laity Lodge!

Thank you for the kinds words. We
re looking forward to being out there.
I suppose I also I have in mind the gradual realization that my friends who make lots of money making music and my friends who make lots of music but don't are increasingly in the same boat (the songs remaining the same). It's as if people are paying equal heed to the "non-professionals" showcasing themselves via blogs and youtube and folks are expected to issue their appeals on that level minus the flash. A good thing, I think.

I have no response for that.

David!! Hi old friend. I feel as if your name has hit my radar a handful of times this past year. My BFF Rebecca works for my friend who lives across the street from you. Steve M. text me from your house last Sat night. And Mark Miller loaned me one of your books. And I just ran across your blog. How the hell are you? Great blog. I'm going to put it on my blog roll and I'll be seeing you around, even if it is by virtue of the Internet.

Ha! Capnwatsisname beat me to it! Whenever I hear "Joe vs. the Volcano," I think "I have no response to that." OR "Want to hear a poem? 'The delicate fingers of his hair tickled the emptiness of my hand.' What to hear it again?"

And I don't think I've ever felt as strongly about an election as I do this one. I'm giving money and want to do more, because if he's not elected, I don't want to have to say, "I'm part of the reason he's not president, because I did nothing." He believes that WE are the ones to BE the change. I don't want to let him down. (Plus, he's so damn handsome.)
