The New Vision

What do I want? Well, I want the new vision (I would use this word only to myself),--the new vision fastened in the material world by style. the vision must be of the strength, variety, validity of life, implying the ethically good
--Thom Gunn, 1964
I do believe in poetry as an activity reflective of one's life at its fullest--not only reflective, but it actually can be one's life at its fullest.
--Thom Gunn, 1980
w/ thanks to Colm Tóibín for his review of At the Barriers: On the Poetry of Thom Gunn

I just posted a confession that I am stealing most of my ideas from NYRB at the moment. I posted on the venerable poet a week or so ago and stole this Gunn journal note from Colm Toibin's review:
'I do believe in poetry as an activity reflective of one's life at its fullest - not only reflective but it actually can be one's life at its fullest'
Glad to see you breathing in the same pollen...
God bless...

I love the last quote of Gunn.
I have only blogged a year and find it very rich for my internal life. And it is fun in establishing people to communicate with. Probably a year ago I would not have understood Gunn's quote.

I like your thoughts...we can exchange thoughts if you wish, because I have a blog too as of recent. It is www.therockinghorsestable.blogspot.com
I wish I had more wise commentary...but for now, its just silly book, record and show reviews plus random extras from my brain.
Miss you guys!, Whitni Roche
