Piety ought to be inseparable from critical thinking

Here's the teacher making plain:
We have to pay debt to the sources to the sources of our being. That includes mom and dad. That includes the community that shaped you. That includes the nation that both protects you as well as gives you some sense of possibility. And for religious folk, of course, it includes God. Now, the problem is there has to be some Socratic energy in one's piety. Piety ought to be inseparable from critical thinking.

I've been thinking a lot this week about the need to creatively synthesize everything one comes across (the news, arts, blogs, music) and (from where I am standing at the moment, at least) turn it all into something new (even if just jottings and doodles in a notebook).
As always, thanks for the posting, which is always informing my thinking.

what was it Nietzsche said; I do not know what the spirit of a philosopher could more wish to be than a good dancer. For the dance is his ideal, also his fine art, finally also the only kind of piety he knows, his "divine service."

will either of you be at the belt this month?

Looking forward to being a bridesmaid sarah????? :)

hope you are all well
